A Month Away...

Exactly one month from today I will be enjoying a great cup of coffee and basking in the glory of finishing a marathon in some quaint Montreal cafe or being transported back to the States in a stretcher and eating out of a straw.

Nevertheless, I'm excited about both possibilities.

If I complete the expected 10 mile run today than I'll have logged in 47 miles in the last 7 days. By the end of the weekend, that total should be somewhere in the mid-sixties. That's comparable to running from my home in Suffield to Black Point in Niantic. Not gonna lie to ya - I'm feeling pretty good about it.

I'm not feeling great about my ADHD running habits, but if it ends up getting me the same results in the end than I can live with it.

So, today will be another ten. Tomorrow will be considerably more, although I don't know by exactly how much. I've been finding out about more and more people who are taking part in the Hartford full or half marathon. Knowing that they are going through the same regimen and pain that I am is only making this whole experience more worthwhile.

  1. George. How about LA Marathon in March? It is much closer to us and both Tanya and I should be able to run it with you.

  3. If you're running a marathon in a month, you should be mixing short runs with long runs. There are some great marathon training websites that you can refer to and get an idea of a good training schedule for your last month. 26.2 miles will eat you alive, especially the first time you run it. I'm concerned for you in that you don't seem to have a consistent training schedule with mileage to be run. Also, you need to taper your mileage the last week before the marathon. Lastly, I usually carb load the 3 days leading up to the marathon. It's something you may want to look into. I'm not trying to be negative, just helpful. Good luck, and e-mail me if you need any help. Rick a.k.a. Marathonman Runs Again

  4. Thank you Rick... I agree... Ill be most likely doing wekkday runs of 5/8/5 for the three weeks with runs of 4/6/4 the week of the marathon... Im gonna taper down the long runs to 16 next weekend, 13 the following weekend and 9 or ten the weekend before... By deciding to do both marathons, I needed to be creative with the runs. I pushed it this week to help me mentally. I'll see if it is the right plan... if you have any advice on how to run the next few weeks, please dont hesitate to let me know...
